Local Adventures--
There are many, but these are our tried and true favorites.

White Water Kayak / Rafting
Far Flung Adventures
The Box is our favorite stretch for rafting. Starts early and finishes just after a nice lunch, provided. 20 minutes from the house. Guides are very skilled and fun. Many levels of age & experience accomodated. Don't forget a waterproof camera.

The Racecourse is our favorite kayak trip. Lots of options for all levels. The Pilar Yacht Club (that's a joke) can help you w/ lots of stuff, but we really like to go across the street to the big Ranger's station/ park info or whatever. They'll tell you how fast the water is and so on. They have a great map/book that gives you detailed info about each segment of the course, worth the $10.

Fly Fishing
Streit's Fly Fishing
Very skilled and professional guidance. We got fish every time he took us. Let him tell you what to bring, get you the license, show you the fish.

Horseback Riding
Lajitas Stables
Rode up the mountain with a horsewoman extraordinaire. She matched us to our horses, watched and coached us all the way to the top, fed us a delicious meal and made us laugh a lot.

Driving / Sightseeing
Enchanted Circle
Especially good Spring and Fall, but beautiful anytime. See the map--you can start in either direction and it looks different. Lunch in Red River. There is a Motocycle Rally Memorial weekend that is unreal.
Rio Grande Gorge Bridge
Do this at sunset, if you can, but definitely do it! This bridge sits 700 feet over the Rio Grande Box Canyon (from the raft trip above)

Hiking
Wild Rivers
2 1/2 hours round trip, but bring a backpack and you'll spend the whole day! Beautiful, medium hard descent.
Bandolero State Park Old cave dwellings, great walks, doesn't feel too touristy.
Manby Hot Springs on Tune Drive Bathing suits optional, but not encouraged ;-)
Wheeler Peak Summertime activity, beautiful. Wintertime snowshoe activity, exciting.
